I am proud to endorse Attorney General Phil Weiser to be Colorado’s next governor. He has the vision, drive, and spirit we need to meet this moment.

I see today much of what my team and I faced in 1983 when through our Mayoral candidacy we asked Denverites to “Imagine a Great City”.

Our direction as a city,  state, and nation was challenged, then in many ways like it is today. Denver was in an oil, commercial and industrial bust that shuttered many downtown offices. Our City lacked vitality and energy.  People were concerned about the impact the federal government had by undermining social programs harming the most vulnerable among us.  

I am forever proud of the people who came together during my time as Mayor to implement our vision and prepare our city, region, and state for growth: a new International Airport; a revitalized downtown; a new Convention Center; a modernized Cherry Creek Shopping Center; the Lower Downtown Historic District (LODO); a new Central Library; rejuvenated neighborhoods; and Major League Baseball.

While I served as Secretary of Transportation and Secretary of Energy in the Clinton Administration over 20 million jobs were created, the budget was balanced, and the national debt was reduced, all without destroying lives, violating the Constitution, or recking a global economy. In this pivotal moment, Phil is already defending Coloradans from the dangerous and reckless actions of the Trump Administration and can be counted on to continue this

Phil is committed to strengthening our economy, creating new jobs, enhancing our beautiful Colorado environment, and protecting our fundamental constitutional rights. 

I am honored to assist Phil as he assembles Colorado’s next team of leaders determined to enhance Colorado’s prosperity. He imagines a “Greater Colorado” with inspiring ideas to support Colorado industries, start-up businesses and local entrepreneurs. He will further the work of attracting future technologies. He will join with the state legislature and local governments to make Colorado safer, to provide affordable housing and cost effective childcare.  He will protect our land, air, and water. He will provide our kids a better future, with enhanced educational and mentoring opportunities, and a voluntary service program for young people.   

As a former legislator, I know that the best Governors listen, bring people together, and are effective problem solvers. As a former mayor, I know that the best Governors find ways to partner, collaborate, and lift up local governments. And as a Colorado citizen, I know that Phil Weiser is already doing this today.

Like 1983, Colorado faces a moment of truth. We have incredible challenges. We are also primed for a new era of growth, innovation, and leadership. With Phil, we will get a proven innovator and an accomplished problem solver with the experience and drive to lead this great state. 

I wholeheartedly support Phil Weiser for Governor.  He is the right person at the right time with the moral courage, sense of purpose, and energy to meet this moment.
