PUEBLO, CO – Today, Colorado Attorney General and candidate for governor Phil Weiser won the Colorado Democratic Party’s state assembly nomination, earning the support of 90% of party delegates and securing the top line on the Democratic primary ballot for governor ahead of the June 30 primary.
The dominant win comes after Weiser delivered a fiery speech in front of party delegates at Pueblo Memorial Hall in Pueblo. In his speech, Weiser highlighted his winning record against President Trump and his cabinet members and big corporations that have taken advantage of Coloradans, and promised to “fight for our future.” Watch the speech here.
“This victory is proof that when we show up for Coloradans and fight – we win,” Phil Weiser said. “The choice in the governor’s race is crystal clear: Michael Bennet is the candidate of Washington, and I’m the candidate of Colorado. I’m not backed by out-of-state billionaires – I’m powered by the people of Colorado, and as governor, I’ll show up and fight for all Coloradans each and every day.”
Weiser was introduced at the state assembly by former Gov. Roy Romer – who is Weiser’s honorary campaign chair – and was nominated by Nicole Hensel, candidate for Jefferson County Clerk & Recorder and former executive director of New Era Colorado. Weiser was joined on stage by his wife, Heidi Wald; his son, Sammy; his parents, Estare and David Weiser; his brother, Steven Weiser; and two nieces.
