Denver, CO – May 22, 2025 – Today, Phil Weiser for Colorado is thrilled to announce the endorsement of his candidacy for governor by Federico Peña, former Colorado House Democratic Leader, mayor of Denver and U.S. Secretary of Transportation and Secretary of Energy.
“Phil is the right person at the right time, with the moral courage, sense of purpose, and energy to meet this moment,” said Peña. “Phil is already defending Coloradans from the dangerous and reckless actions of the Trump administration and can be counted on to continue this work as Colorado’s—and the people’s—governor. As Attorney General, Phil has shown a remarkably innovative spirit, boundless energy, and a sincere commitment to listening to communities across Colorado.”
Peña joins other Weiser for Governor endorsers, including former Governor of Colorado Roy Romer, who serves as honorary chair for Weiser’s campaign, and a diverse array of current and former Democratic elected officials and community leaders.
“After holding 19 town hall sessions across the state, AG Weiser successfully stopped a mega-grocery store merger that would have cost jobs and increased prices. He worked with Coloradans to develop a nationally recognized framework to determine how to spend nearly $900 million from drug companies that created the opioid crisis. And he has held irresponsible companies accountable, returning over $500 million to Colorado citizens,” Peña added. “In short, Phil Weiser shows up everywhere, listens, and delivers. I am proud to endorse him to be Colorado’s next governor.”

Phil Weiser was elected Attorney General of Colorado in 2018 and reelected in 2022. In January 2025, Weiser announced his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for Governor of the State of Colorado in the 2026 election.
