Position Title: Political and Field Director
Reports to: Campaign Manager
Location: Denver, Colorado (with frequent statewide travel)
Employment Type: Full-time for the duration of the campaign
Role Summary
The Political and Field Director is a senior leadership role on Team Phil—responsible for managing the campaign’s statewide political engagement and ensuring flawless operational execution. This role will oversee relationships with political stakeholders, community leaders, and grassroots organizations, while also managing the campaign’s internal operations, scheduling, logistics, and event execution. The Political Director will ensure that the candidate’s time and the campaign’s resources are deployed strategically to maximize impact across Colorado’s diverse political landscape.
This role requires a strategic thinker, skilled relationship builder, and meticulous organizer who thrives in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
Key Responsibilities and Deliverables
Political Engagement & Stakeholder Management
- Develop and execute a statewide political engagement strategy to build relationships with elected officials, party leaders, advocacy organizations, labor unions, and community influencers.
- Maintain and expand a database of key political and community contacts.
- Recruit and cultivate a group of county leads across Colorado.
- Manage constituency group engagement, including Students for Phil
- Ensure stakeholders are continually updated on the campaign’s progress and successes while being utilized to further the campaign’s strategic goals.
- Coordinate surrogate programs and manage outreach to political allies for endorsements, event participation, and coalition-building.
- Track political developments to inform campaign strategy.
- Represent the campaign at political and community events when the candidate is unavailable.
Operations & Scheduling
- Manage the candidate’s statewide schedule to ensure optimal balance between political engagement, fundraising, voter outreach, and media opportunities.
- Oversee all campaign travel, tour planning, and event logistics, including multi-day statewide trips.
- Ensure all events are fully staffed, with briefing materials, run-of-show documents, and post-event follow-up processes in place.
- Coordinate with Finance, Communications, Digital, and Policy teams to ensure events and appearances are leveraged across all campaign channels.
Event Planning & Execution
- Lead the planning and execution of political events and community meetings.
- Oversee site selection, venue contracts, staging, AV, permits, and security when applicable.
- Work with the Digital and Communications teams to amplify event attendance and visibility.
- Manage relationships with local hosts, partners, and volunteers to ensure successful execution of all events.
Team Leadership & Collaboration
- Supervise political staff, interns, and volunteers.
- Collaborate closely with the Campaign Manager and senior team to align political engagement and operations with overall campaign strategy.
- Incorporate volunteers into campaign operations and political outreach by creating clear roles, providing necessary training and resources, and fostering a sense of ownership that keeps them engaged throughout the campaign.

Experience
- 4+ years of experience in political campaigns, government, or advocacy organizations.
- Proven track record in political relationship management and statewide operations.
- Strong understanding of Colorado’s political landscape, voter demographics, and regional priorities.
- Experience managing staff and volunteers in high-pressure, fast-paced environments.
Skills
- Exceptional organizational skills with a keen eye for detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to juggle multiple priorities while meeting tight deadlines.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace, NGP VAN, and project management tools; familiarity with event production and political outreach databases a plus.
Compensation
Salary Range: $6,000 – 7,500/month, commensurate with experience.
Performance Bonus: One month’s salary.
