Susana - Morgan County

“Our slogan [at One Morgan County] is “Uniting cultures to celebrate the mosaic of our community.” We try to get all the different cultures present in the community in a space, where they are sitting next to each other, getting to know each other. … I consider Colorado to be a welcoming state and I want it to continue to be that.
— Susana, Morgan County

Susana emigrated to Fort Morgan at age five, and has lived here ever since. She works at One Morgan County, a community center dedicated to embracing and welcoming people of all backgrounds and cultures. “That’s how we see integration. We don’t see it as assimilation,” Susana said of the discussions she helps facilitate. With national conversations about immigration, Susana says she’s seen an uptick in people coming by the center to discuss current events and citizenship (she’s working on her Board of Immigration Appeals certification, to continue her advocacy). At a time when borders feel smaller and fear looms large in the minds of immigrants and workers, Fort Morgan shows the power of community.

As Attorney General, I will protect our Dreamers, stand up against unconstitutional travel bans, and prevent the inhumane treatment of immigrants at the hands of ICE. I can ensure immigrant communities are protected, and conversations like those Susana facilitates can continue to happen without fear of deportation. Read more about my story of immigration.
