Joe - Crowley County

“We’ve seen the population [in Crowley] decline by 40-50 percent. It’s basically a buy and dry situation: the water rights were sold and people left the county.
— Joe, Crowley County

During my campaign, I have twice visited Crowley County. During my second visit there, John Stulp (Governor Hickenlooper’s water advisor) and I discussed the story of how Crowley County sold its water rights. This is a model of how not to handle water,” Stulp said. Water is the lifeblood of our state. Our agricultural economy, tourism industry, and quality of life in this beautiful state depend on it.

Because of climate change and the projected growth that will take place in Colorado over the decades ahead, we need innovative leadership to protect, conserve, and manage our water. As Attorney General, I will bring people together from our state and surrounding states to ensure smart, thoughtful management of this crucial resource.
