Gerry - Eagle County

“...I am worried about mental health. An attorney general can take care of me, the young people, and everyone in Colorado both physically and mentally.”
— Gerry, Eagle County

While in Edwards, I had the chance to talk to Gerry. He lives in Eagle County, where the suicide rate exceeds the national average by a significant amount, calling attention to the necessity of creating accessible mental health options here and around the state. Eagle County is piloting an innovative solution by using revenue produced by taxing legalized marijuana to fund mental health services, something that has thus far proven successful. However, the question of mental health in Colorado remains urgent. In most parts of our state, a combination of prohibitive costs and stigma often prevent those struggling from seeking treatment.

As Attorney General, I will work to protect access to mental health services, requiring insurance companies to cover treatment for mental health and substance abuse related issues as called for by federal and state law. I will also protect the use of tax revenue from marijuana sales to support mental health services. To protect young people in Gerry’s community and elsewhere, I will work with leaders around Colorado to develop creative solutions to support the mental health services we need to support all Coloradans.
